The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) provisions for health information privacy and patient confidentiality standards that will affect all health service organizations. 

Section 164.316 (b) (2) (i) of HIPAA specifically requires that all documentation related to security policies be retained for 6 years.
