Frequently Asked Questions
Does Engagent Metering require an agent on every computer?
Agents are not required for metering functionality. Agents
are required if you want to police usage, denying users access to
specific applications.
What databases are supported?
Engagent Metering will work with any database that interfaces to OLE DB.
This includes almost any industrial strength database you may want to attach
to, for example, Microsoft SQL Server. Note that no external database is
required. The product ships with an Access MDB database built in.
How do workstations communicate with the server?
The file system is used as the communication protocol between the client
workstation, where the metering is executed, and the server, where the
metering result is stored. The administrator creates a shared folder, where
clients can save the result files from the metering application. This
folder, or you can use several folders, is monitored by the server side
software of Engagent Domain Metering. The Database Agent is responsible for
collecting the data files for the folders and inserting the result into the
Engagent Domain Metering database.
What standards does the product employ?
The product is designed around XML to expedite integration with other
systems or processes.
